Forest Steal A March!

By Joe Perkins

Foresters nick ahead in title chase; Abbey keep tabs; Corpus still on target; Bernie's falter as 'hale close in.

At a sunny Castle Vale Stadium on Wednesday, the girls league resumed with an entertaining and enjoyable evening's football and one that left it ridiculously tight at the top - only 5 points separate fifth placed Blakenhale from new leaders, Lea Forest.
Forest had a brilliant evening, winning three of their four games and defeated the three teams that now sit directly below them - only a lack of concentration in a 1-1 draw with Colebourne, denied them maximum points and they will be hoping that doesn't come back to haunt them. The Foresters victories came against Abbey, a tight 2-1, before impressing against Corpus Christi, 3-1, before ending the evening with a goal bonanza waltzing past a tired St Bernadette's, 7-1.
The Forest defeat was Abbey's solo one and though they drew an exciting game, 2-2, with fellow title chasers, Corpus Christi, they won a tight game against St Bernadette's, 1-0, easily beat Rosary 3-0 and though frustrated for large parts in their clash with Parkfield, they eventually managed to eek out a 2-0 win.
Corpus Christi are still in the hunt after they secured wins over Colebourne, 2-0, Harper Bell, 1-0 and Parkfield, 3-0 - these was allied to that aforementioned draw with Abbey.
St Bernadette's were top going into the latest round of matches but suffered a topsy-turvy evening this time out. Bernie's defeated Harper Bell and Erdington Hall, 1 and 2-0 respectively, but those two defeats to Abbey and Lea Forest may well prove fatal.
The big movers on the night were Blakenhale who threw their hat into the title ring with 2-0 wins over Parkfield and Colebourne and a narrow 1-0 triumph against a battling Erdington Hall.
Colebourne were the only other side to win a game as they defeated Parkfield, 1-0.
Lea Forest go back top then and are a solitary point ahead of Abbey but crucially have a game in hand. Corpus and Bernie's on 29 points are a point further back and separated only by Corpus's better goal difference. Blakenhale's nine points puts them fifth on 26 points and lurking behind them in sixth with three points less are Short Heath who have two games in hand on those above them and one on the leaders.
The 1st of May will see the next and penultimate round of matches, and who knows where the destination of the title is going to be in a brilliantly exciting race.

Where next?

Forest to the Fore! LF nudge ahead; Bell bruised; Dene signal intent; SSMM and Highfield emerge.
Stone Stroll Back Top! Hillstone cruise to win; Mixed night for 'hale; Heath back on track; Mo's farewell ends in defeat.
