Youths Heap Pressure On Leaders!

By Joe Perkins

Yardley second after EACT win; Heathens nick points in Shard End. Double Prem win for Alston.

Yardley Youths produced a robust performance at their home base on Tuesday evening in defeating a determined EACT Nechells side. The hard-earned victory helped the Youths to jump from seventh place to second - they were also assisted by a 4-0 walkover win over Audley - and are now just five points behind leaders, SS Peter & Paul, with two games in hand. EACT also benefited with Audley's no-show, and were awarded a 4-0 win which takes them up to eighth place and respectability in mid-table.
Over in Shard End, Short Heath were helping themselves to three points as they toppled Timberley, 2-1. The result reflected the two sides' closeness in the table and the win took Heath to within a point of the Timbers, with a game in hand. The two sides went toe-to-toe in an entertaining game and the game could have gone either way, but the Heathens' resilience saw them home and the points went back to Erdington with them.
There were also three games played in the Premier on Tuesday evening. Alston were the main winners as they grabbed a maximum 6 points from their two games at Hollyfields Sports Club. The Bordesley-based side defeated Colebourne 4-1 and Paget, impressively, 6-0. The evening's other game saw Paget down the Coles 4-1 to compound a miserable outing for the Hodge Hill outfit. Colebourne remain rooted to the foot of the table, while Alston leap from second-bottom to ninth; Paget move up to seventh with 12 points in the bag.
