Champions Grab 6-point Salvo!

By Joe Perkins

But Mapledene and Rosary push them hard.

Thursday evening saw the reigning champions take to the field for the first time this season and they returned to Wensley Road with maximum points.
In their first game they beat The Rosary 2-0, but the Saltley side battled valiantly throughout. They rode their luck at times but the LG keeper had to be on his toes to twice deny Rosary raids.
In their second game of the night LG went a goal down early on to keen hosts, Mapledene. But Lyndon hit back rapidly, turning it around to go in 3-1 up at the break. The Maples performed superbly in the second stanza and despite pulling a goal back, were ultimately thwarted by the Wensley Roaders who ran out narrow 3-2 winners.
The evening's other game saw Rosary carry on their good start to the season with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Mapledene. The Sheldon side took the lead following an excellent low strike from outside the penalty box, but Rosary hit back, levelling before half-time. An evenly contested second period saw Rosary net the only goal to leave Cranes Park with all three points.
The Rosary jump back into third place whilst Lyn Green's opening double winning salvo takes them to fifth. Mapledene remain on three points, moving down a spot, to sixth.
