Abbey Treble Yr 3/4 Kings!

By Joe Perkins

Abbey tri-champions in Yr 3/4 domination. Audley undone in final.

Abbey's domination of ESPSFA football at Year 3 and 4 level continued unabated on a stony cold Wednesday evening at Power League in Yardley as they secured an unprecedented 6-a-side 'three in a row'.
16 teams braved the November chill and played their part in an exciting and highly entertaining evening's football with goals and thrills and spills aplenty.
Abbey didn't have it their own way in the group stage though and they had to play second fiddle to Audley's A side who took top spot on goal difference; both qualifying for the quarter finals.
Group A was won by Timberley A with Audley B runners-up and they too made their way to the last eight. Joining them from Group B were winners Hillstone (in impressive fashion) and second-placed Oval. The final two to make the quarters came out of Group C where Firs ousted SS Peter and Paul to snatch the top bunk.
So to the knockout stage, where Timberley A edged past a determined P&P side by 3 goals to 1, whilst in a titanic clash, Abbey and Hillstone shared 5 goals - the Erdington side nicking it 3-2. Audley's A team waltzed to a 4-0 victory against The Oval but their B side fell to a 1-0 Firs defeat.
The semi-finals were contrasting affairs, Abbey thumped Timberley A 7-1, while Audley A needed a late own goal to take them to the final: a 2-1 win for the Glebesiders over battling Firs.
The final saw Audley A and Abbey face each other again as they had done in the group stages and it was the cup holders who cantered to a 3-0 win and in the process retained the trophy for the third consecutive year.
Abbey’s academy continues to produce the goods and the secret of Mr McTernan’s success? Get them at year 2 and work with 'em - simple as!

Where next?
